NICA Circus Showcase

July 03, 2014

The National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) situated in Melbourne’s trend-setting suburb Prahran offers the only Bachelor of Circus Arts degree found in the country.  Each year, graduate NICA students perform their highly tuned skills to a public audience in their annual Circus Showcase.

Circus student artists present an eclectic mix of skills matched with their physical strength with performances such as: Aerial Cube, Aerial Straps, Chinese Pole, Contortion, Duo and Single Rope, German Wheel, Hand Balancing, Head Balancing, Head Trapeze, Hula Hoops, Juggling, Roué Cyr, Single Point Trapeze, Tightwire, Tissu, Tumbling and Unicycle.

NICA's Bachelor of Circus Arts degree has been available to students since 2001, with the first NICA Circus Showcase taking place in 2003.  In recent years, between 15-20 students complete NICA's Bachelor of Circus Art degree, all of which work tremendously hard to get to such a competent level, which is reflected in their end of year show.

NICA Circus Showcase 2014 ‘ROUGE et BLANC’ opened to the public on 1 July, this time offering two quite different cabaret style shows, show Rouge and show Blanc, each with their own distinct flavour and hosted by an entertaining, singing MC.

NICA Circus Showcase’s are somewhat of a hidden entertainment secret, offering immensely enjoyable, well choreographed performances by highly talented graduates matching the skills seen in any big name circus shows seen today.  NICA graduates are the circus stars of tomorrow, and you have the opportunity to see them first.
