Medibank Icehouse

September 02, 2016

There are different sports for different terrains. Running, jumping and twirling on land could be a breeze for you but can you do the same on ice?

Medibank Icehouse offers skaters, from first timers to seasoned professionals the benefit of two Olympic sized ice rinks to skate till their heart's content. For first time skaters, the Icehouse offers free 15-minutes lessons that teaches you the basics of moving, turning, stopping and even the safe way of falling over (that's side ways with bent knees).

It's never early too start as you'll often see young children excitedly dashing about or even practicing a daring pirouette or two. It makes for a fantastic family outing and if your child loves it enough, you could consider holding a birthday party there. The Icehouse also caters for general social functions and has plenty of function rooms depending on your purposes. If you're thinking of a cool, fun date, Saturday night spells Ice Disco. Stumble through the classics together, then enjoy some drinks at the upstairs bar.

Skates are available for hire, or you can purchase your own pair once you become a frequent skater. There is also locker hire.

The centre is located in Docklands. It is easily accessible via the City Circle tram, or tram 70 and 86. Whether you're bored of your usual outings or just looking for a new sport to try, definitely give ice skating a go!
