Melbourne's Baddest Burger (& Why It's Actually Amazingly Good)

September 02, 2016

Back in high school it was always a wonder what made the bad boys so popular; how was it that they slacked off in class and still managed to get the girls? And how on earth did they ever manage to make sweatbands look fashionable?

While these are mysteries of the universe that may never be answered, but we are able to tell you what makes Badboys in Melbourne so dam sexy.

Badboys is a teeny-tiny burger joint just inside of Punch Lane, the only ray of sunshine down an otherwise dull and muted laneway. Upon entering you’ll notice the pop culture art that fills the walls; Ned Stark from Game of Thrones sits on his throne while his buddy Ironman watches over the tables.

Whilst Badboys may or may not be guilty of a little copyright infringement, we do know that they’re more than guilty of making mouth-watering burgers. There’s 5 standard burgers on the menu, each priced at $9.50. We choose the Badboy  – beef patty, cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and sauce - and we slip in a crumbed chicken patty for an extra $3.

The service is a little rough; we have to repeat our order several times and even then the attendant comes over to our table to confirm it again. But the burger soon arrives and it’s delicious.

The beef patty still has a little bit of that red goodness but it’s the chicken that’s the standout; crisp on the outside and tender in the inside. We’re glad we got an extra patty. The bun is soft and the salad ingredients are fresh. The beer battered fries compliment it well, offering a nice alternative to traditional fries.

Our hot tip is to visit on a Tuesday between 2-8pm when Badboys have their tight-ass special. For $10 you’ll receive any burger, a serving of chips and a can of Coke. With our extra patty we paid a grand total of $13. Now that’s a well-priced meal.

Outside of that you can get a burger + chips + drink for $15.

We finish up and leave, receiving a friendly goodbye from the staff. If you’re in the area and after a burger fix, then Badboys comes recommended. You might just discover why nobody loves the good guys.
