Theatre goers will be delighted to hear Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record breaking musical CATS will return to Melbourne this December for a strictly limited season.
The hit stage show prowls back to Australia after a triumphant revival season performed at the London Palladium in Britain's theatre capital. CATS will open in Sydney this October, moving onto Hobart then Melbourne in December, and will finish up in Brisbane in 2016.
Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the reworked season of CATS sees all the alley cat favourites return to the on-stage junkyard set, with Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks joined by Rum Tum Tugger in an all-new street cat rapping role complete with funky new breakdance moves.
The all-Australian cast of CATS has been announced:
Leading the female cast will be Delta Goodrem playing the role of ‘Grizabella’. Joining Goodrem will be Amy Berrisford (Demeter), Madeline Cain (swing), Emma Delmenico (Resident Choreographer/swing), Dominique Hamilton (Rumpleteazer), Ashleigh Hauschild (Tantomile), Jade Hui-Wen Coutts (Victoria/The White Cat), Erin James (swing), Emily Keane (Cassandra), Sarah Landy (Bombalurina), Bree Langridge (swing), Holly Meegan (Jennyanydots), Samantha Morley (Jellylorum/Griddlebone), and Stephanie Silcock (Jemima).
The male cast features Daniel Assetta (Rum Tum Tugger), James Cooper (Admetus/Macavity/Dance Captain), Andrew Dunne (swing), Matt Edwards (swing), Christopher Favaloro (Mr Mistoffelees), Keanu Gonzalez (Alonzo/Rumpus Cat), Ross Hannaford (Skimbleshanks), Sam Hooper (swing), Thomas Johansson (Pouncival), Tobias Madden (Carbucketty), Matt McFarlane (Munkustrap), Stephen Morgante (Resident Director/swing), Brent Osborne (Mungojerrie), Josh Piterman (Bustopher Jones/Gus/Growltiger), Taylor Scanlan (Bill Bailey), Jason Wasley (Old Deuteronomy), and Patrick Whitbread (Coricopat).
The original team of creative collaborates once again worked on the revived CATS show in London's West End; Director Trevor Nunn, Choreographer & Associate Director Gillian Lynne, Set Designer John Napier and Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. Due to outstanding reviews the recent London show extended its season to cope with overwhelming demand.
Rum Tum Tugger
CATS is one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history. After opening at the New London Theatre in 1981, the award-winning musical clocked up almost 9,000 performances over a 21 consecutive year period. In 1983, CATS dug its claws into Broadway, where the Jellicle Cats prowled for 18 years, and aquired seven Tony awards including Best Musical.
